How to make a claim

If you need to make a claim please call us on 1300 369 901 (Monday to Friday) or email our claims team at [email protected]. Our claims team are employees of EISS Super, not the insurer. They are there to guide you through the claims process and answer any questions you have.

Types of claims

As a member of EISS Super, you can apply to have your superannuation benefits released early (along with any applicable insurance benefits), in the event of:

    • Death or Terminal illness
    • Total and Permanent Disablement (also known as Permanent Incapacity).

If you have Salary Continuance Insurance, and in the event that you are temporarily disabled, you may be able to claim a Salary Continuance Insurance benefit. You can find further information about Salary Continuance Insurance here.

Need more information about withdrawing your super before retirement?

You or your representative will need to notify us as soon as practicable of the intention to claim, so we can help guide you through the claim process.

For EISS Super to begin assessment of the claim, you will need to provide all necessary documentation. Once received, EISS Super will review your claim to assess that you have met the relevant ‘condition of release’ criteria as prescribed by superannuation law.

If you are claiming an insurance benefit, your claim will need to be assessed by both the Insurer and the Trustee. Please note, depending on the date you joined and how long you have been a member, your insurance cover may be subject to certain conditions and limitations.

Our insurance claims philosophy

EISS Super’s insurance claims philosophy is to:

  • comply with its duties under the general law, the SIS Act and the Corporations Act 2001 that are enlivened when a member or other beneficiary of the Scheme claims a benefit from the Scheme;
  • ensure that all claims are handled in a timely, fair and efficient manner, consistently with the best interests of beneficiaries of the Scheme; and
  • communicate with claimants and potential claimants transparently, sympathetically, in clear terms and concisely, to assist them in their time of need. The Trustee considers that its insurance claims philosophy is aligned with the Insurer’s claims philosophy, which is:
"We will pay all genuine claims promptly and with compassion, and we will encourage the health and wellbeing of all Australians."
Engaging lawyers to act on your claim

A common misconception is that you need legal representation to claim superannuation or insurance benefits. This is not the case.

EISS Super is legally required to act in your best interest and that includes pursuing our insurer on reasonable claims on your behalf.

Some law firms will take a substantial portion of your superannuation entitlement, sometimes a large percentage of your entitlement under a claim. Some law firms will ask members to enter into fee agreements that you cannot get out of (irrevocable fee agreements).

We are here to help

At EISS Super, we want your superannuation benefits to go to you and your family. We understand that suffering a serious illness or injury is a very challenging time of life. We aim to assist with your claim and finalise any payment as quickly as possible.

Interpreter services. If you require an interpreter to assist you with the claim process, we can provide one in most circumstances at no additional cost. For more information about this service, call us on 1300 369 901.
